"Totally unique.. sensational...a triumph...." are a few words that have been used to describe the Swing Punks recent shows in London.
Maverick producer and composer Chris Bemand has created a set for big band that takes the classic punk songs far away from their angry, safety pin and spitting roots, and turned them into a jazzy, funky and fun musical adventure . From a slow, seductive rendition of "Ever Fallen In Love With Someone " (The Buzzcocks) to an insanely catchy, full speed, brass blast of Blitzkrieg Bop (The Ramones) the Swing Punks are getting crowds fired up and baying for more.
He said: “It’s been an amazing journey restructuring these songs of my youth. Once you cut through the nastiness, you'll find incredible songs with great lyrics. I am really proud of what we've created with the Big Band and I can't wait to share them with the rest of the world.
Swing Punks features a twenty piece big band drawn from some of London’s finest jazz musicians. The band consists of four trombones, four trumpets, five saxophones, drums, bass, guitar, piano and three singers and is led by trombonist / singer James Lawrence.
The show includes tracks by: The Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, The Damned, The Ruts, The Ramones, The Lurkers, X-Ray Spex, The Buzzcocks and The Undertones
