Bio
"Totally unique.. sensational...a triumph...." are a few words that have been used to describe the Swing Punks recent shows in London.
Maverick producer and composer Chris Bemand has created an extraordinary Big Band set that takes the classic punk songs far away from their spitting, safety pin and angry roots, and turned them into a jazzy, funky and fun musical odyssey . From a slow, seductive rendition of "Ever Fallen In Love With Someone " (The Buzzcocks) to an insanely catchy, full speed, brass blast of Blitzkrieg Bop (The Ramones) the Swing Punks are getting crowds fired up and baying for more.
He said: “It’s been an amazing journey restructuring these songs of my youth. I loved punk music and once you cut through the nastiness, you'll find incredible songs with great lyrics. I am really proud of what we've created with the Big Band and I hope the new arrangements will allow these songs to be a appreciated by an entirely new audience."
Swing Punks features a twenty piece big band drawn from some of London’s finest jazz musicians. The band consists of four trombones, four trumpets, five saxophones, drums, bass, guitar, piano and three singers and is led by trombonist / singer James Lawrence.
The show includes tracks by: The Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, The Damned, The Ruts, The Ramones, The Lurkers, X-Ray Spex, The Buzzcocks and The Undertones
